The landfill site at Aughrim Quarry is Clearway’s latest acquisition. This site has been operating as a landfill for Category A and Category B waste. The site is due to be issued with a PPC Licence that will allow the site to also accept a wider range of non-hazardous wastes including mixed municipal waste. The site has the capacity to receive up to 250,000 tonnes per annum for the next 16 years thus providing a long-term solution to Northern Ireland’s
waste disposal problems. The number of PPC licensed landfill facilities will be limited due to the very stringent planning and environmental conditions now required to operate landfill sites.

The main users of this facility will be; Local Councils; transfer stations that produce residual waste from recycling operations; and commercial and industrial waste producers.
